The latest RECT™ Server with AMD EPYC™ 7003

Dual Socket

Single Socket Virtualization

The predecessors: RECT™ servers with AMD EPYC™ 7002

Power, security, future: masterly performance

Up to 64 cores with 128 threads in a single socket and up to 128 cores with 256 threads in a dual socket. Up to 3.2 GHz per CPU in at the base frequency and up to 3.4 GHz at maximum boost frequency with a total of up to 256 MB cache. It also features 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes and DDR4 memory with over 8 channels at up to 3200 MHz. RECT™ tower and rack servers with the new AMD ZEN 2 platform and its EPYC™ 7002 processors deliver outstanding performance.

Impressive performance data
Compared with the previous generation, and also with competitors on the market, the new EPYC models provide the highest ever available core density while, at the same time, every individual CPU model is clocked at a higher frequency. The new platform delivers twice the transfer rates in the area of I/O and memory connection. Compared with the first-generation EPYC™ platform, the 7002 series delivers twice the integer performance and four times the floating point operations per second while providing a constant level of performance with half the energy consumption. In a direct comparison with market leader Intel® and its Xeon® scalable Gen2 series processors, AMD delivers almost double-speed integer performance (plus 90%) as well as floating point performance (plus 79%).

ZEN 2 – the 7nm architecture
Developed under the code name “Rome”, the EPYC™ 7002 processors bring the revamped ZEN 2 architecture to servers. The new EPYC™ shares the same underlying design as the Ryzen 3000, demonstrating a rigorous development of 7nm production technology to the new industry standard. What is more, AMD's chiplet approach – i.e. separating the CPU dies from the I/O dies – promises greater power and success. This means that an EPYC™ 7002 CPU consists of up to eight compute chiplets (CCDs), each with eight cores, and one I/O chiplet for security and communication. The resulting independence in processing ensures that each particular area can run at its own speed without being able to restrict the other areas.

However, AMD does not achieve the significantly higher computing performance just through doubling the number of cores and separating off chiplets. The enhanced AVX-capable floating point processors, which now handle AVX2 instructions twice as fast (compared to their predecessor), also contribute towards this. To this end, AMD has significantly accelerated various caches and internal data paths and raised performance on each clock cycle. The revolutionary increase in performance comes as no surprise as it has proved possible to realise improved branch predictions using tagged geometric history length (TAGE), a doubling of the op cache size, a third address generation unit (AGU) as well as a twofold increase in the speed of the L1 cache.

Security included
The AMD EPYC™ 7002 series processors come with a security subsystem integrated into the processor. AMD calls this “hardened at the core”. Encryption of the virtual machine and the hypervisor safeguards the integrity of the application layer, while encrypted processor registers protect against memory leaks, encrypted network and hard drive data secure data through to their destination and proactive encryption in the memory protects against side-channel vulnerabilities. This ensures that the most important asset – your data – is kept safe.

Use in the RECT™ server for your benefit
AMD is generally taking the performance standard for server systems to a new level with its second generation of EPYC™ processors. With its consistently high levels of performance in the relevant performance areas, its integrated security architecture and a wide application scope, the new technologically outstanding platform boosts RECT™ server systems wherever they are deployed in an IT infrastructure, in a company and in the data centre. The performance advantage is obvious in all areas – in traditional corporate applications and virtual environments, in complex cloud environments and in modern, software-defined infrastructures as well as in high-performance clusters and data analytics. RECT™ servers based on the AMD EPYC™ bring masterly performance to any application.

Advantage:
price / performance

RECT™ servers with AMD EPYC™ 7002 series CPUs enable you to respond to demanding tasks with greater performance resources that consume less power. They offer a comprehensive performance package in the areas of computing power, I/O, memory and security, while keeping costs of acquisition and operation comparatively low. Accordingly, they deliver between 50 and 100% greater performance with acquisition costs up to 40% lower than a comparable Intel platform.

Advantage:
Simple choice

It is always our goal to allow a RECT™ server, whether as a tower or in a rack, to scale to provide the required performance, without the core feature set changing. This succeeds almost perfectly with AMD, since the CPUs of the EPYC™ 7002 series are differentiated strictly by GHz, cores and TDP, while each CPU retains the full feature set. Nothing is turned off or on. This enables performance choices to be made according to need and makes what was already a clear pricing structure even more transparent.

Advantage:
Multi-die design

Like the 1st-generation EPYC™ CPUs, the 2nd generation is also based on a multi-chip model (MCM). The 2nd EPYC™ generation is now based on a single I/O die (14nm) and 8 compute dies (7nm), giving the new EPYC™ a maximum of 64 CPU cores. Memory connection remains unchanged via 8 DDR4 memory channels, but these are now also connected via one I/O die. This significantly simplifies the NUMA constellation while making it more powerful and – according to AMD – fit for the future.

Advantage: Security
