      License Hints for Windows Server 2016/2019

      For correct licensing of the Standard Edition and Datacenter Edition with the chosen precessor equipment – - – a core license is required.

      Operating System CALs

      In addition to the server licenses, you need licenses for all clients accessing the server (Client Access Licenses). These CALs may be licensed by users (User CALs) or devices (Device CALs). A User CAL is recommended when a user accesses the server with different devices. A Device CAL is favourable when one device is used by different users to access the server. All CALs are downward compatible with earlier releases of Microsoft Server.

      The Microsoft Open License program is a simple, cost-effective way for small and midsize organizations to acquire the latest Microsoft technology. The initial order by new customers has to comprise at least 5 licenses. If you need less than 5 licenses in total, the remainder has to be made up by fill-up licenses to comply with this requirement.
